“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and
supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and
the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and
minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
While the word anxious can mean eager or earnestly desirous, it is more times than not used for negative emotions,
like an uneasiness or apprehension. In spite of all the warnings from the Lord
about being anxious, we insist on worrying as if our lives depended on it. How many times have those situations amounted
to nothing? While God deals with matters
of the heart, the enemy deals with matters of the mind. Satan feeds us thoughts
thru various means, which causes our thought processes to conjure up doubt,
worry and fear; none of which come from our Heavenly Father.
We are told in Philippians to prayer. We know God can do ALL things. The difference
is knowing He WILL do it. If it’s in the will of God for your life at
that moment in time then He WILL do it. It’s all tied into faith and trust. It’s a matter of where our focus lies. Like Peter when he stepped out of the boat in
the Gospels (Matthew 14:22-33), do we focus on the circumstances that surround
us or do we focus on the master of
those circumstances.
Being still
and silent can be very difficult for some. Even with a mind that has difficulty
focusing at times, verse 7 above says “My
peace, that you cannot understand, will guard your heart and mind”. God created us. He knows our weaknesses,
faults & failures, yet still loves us and seeks to enable us to avoid that
which can wear us out and drag us down.
Anxiety is a killer that will eat you alive. God knows this and as we
speak to Him about things that are concerning us, not only does He hear us, but
is poised to act on our behalf. Trust
your Heavenly Father without question regarding all things in your life and
while you may not be completely free of all worry and anxiety, those emotions
will not linger. Until next time, walk
with the King and be a blessing!
