1 John 4:8 “But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”
1 John 4:16 “We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.”
Is it true that all the attributes said of ‘love’ in 1 Corinthians 13 are also character traits of God? I believe they are. So, isn’t it possible that God’s name could replace the word ‘love’ in that portion of scripture and describe the many wonderful attributes of our Lord? I believe so.
Let’s have a look …
“(God) is patient, (God) is kind. (He) doesn’t envy, doesn’t boast and isn’t proud. (God) doesn’t dishonor others, isn’t self-seeking, isn’t easily angered and keeps no record of wrongs. (God) doesn’t delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. (God) always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (God) never fails.”
Kinda cool, huh? The words are interchangeable. Not only do you have a crystal-clear definition of ‘romantic’ love, but you also have a crystal-clear picture of what Almighty God is like and in turn, what we are to be like. Take the hint, imitate Christ. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing.
