DESPAIR (def): the feeling that everything is wrong, and nothing will turn out well.
“You may feel like there's no hope left for yourself or for others around you as well. This type can be caused by something in your environment triggering a memory of a difficult event in your past, or by a current stressful situation happening in your life. We know that one of the biggest causes of despair is stress.” [1]
“Despair is typically the fruit of ongoing, unresolved sadness, pain, misery, and anxiety. These emotions come from suffering which is a feeling of pain and misery caused by negative and traumatic events.” [2]
Despair can be a tough one to overcome, because by definition it is something that has taken place after a traumatic nature, such as, a spouse passing, or the sudden death of a family member or close friend. Especially an untimely death. Something sudden and unexpected, like the death of a child. Some folks never find a way to climb out of that pit of despair. It can be mind numbing and spirit crushing to say the least. That type of scenario may require the prayers of the brethren to draw one out into the light once again.
Despair can cause people to be unable to pray for themselves and can even bring a person to the point of not wanting to live any longer. That is a difficult situation to have to deal with for those who are suffering and those who are part of the support group giving aid. Suicide, * while never a good option, unfortunately is prevalent in society. I’ve known believers that were so overcome with despair that they decided to end their life to make the pain go away.
Are Christians who commit suicide still saved and going to heaven? “Scripture teaches that, from the moment we truly believe in Christ, we are guaranteed eternal life (John 3:16). According to the Bible, Christians can know beyond any doubt that they possess eternal life (1 John 5:13). Nothing can separate a Christian from God’s love (Romans 8:38–39). No “created thing” can separate a Christian from God’s love, and even a Christian who commits suicide is a “created thing”; therefore, not even suicide can separate a Christian from God’s love. Jesus died for all of our sins, and if a true Christian, in a time of spiritual attack and weakness, commits suicide, his sin is still covered by the blood of Christ.” [3]
For those who do not know Jesus in a personal way, suicide just expedites their trip to hell. They don’t go to hell for committing suicide, but for their rejection of Christ. It can be difficult for the unsaved to see reality when it comes to the afterlife. It is easier for them to believe a lie because they don’t need to do anything, just believe in God and live their life. This is a severe misunderstanding. Do you really believe that Jesus suffered a brutal death in your place so you could go on thru life the same as you did before? It’s kind of like expecting all the benefits of Microsoft 365 without actually paying for it. Jesus paid for it all and you’re still not tapping into His vast resources. How sad. Satan has deceived you. It’s not too late to redirect your focus onto Almighty God and allow Him to guide you out of your despair. Trust Him today. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing.

* Depression is the most common condition associated with suicide, and it is often undiagnosed or untreated. Conditions like depression, anxiety, and substance problems, especially when unaddressed, increase risk for suicide.
