I’m
a big ice hockey fan. My team: the New
Jersey Devils. They are mired in an
0-5-4 slump that could knock them out of the playoff picture. We were at the game last night and once again
their offense was woeful. They out shot their opponent 39-11 yet were shutout
2-0. Ugh! Why do I bring up all this? I am frustrated by all this and I have no
vested interest other than the cost of the tickets. I can’t even begin to imagine what the players’
level of frustration is. Frustration is a part of life.
We are not
exempt from frustration as Christians. We
deal with it just like anyone else. As
we read God’s word and get to know Him intimately as I have been saying, we
will slowly begin to understand what it is to have peace in frustrating
situations. It isn’t magic or some sort
of voodoo; it is nothing more than shifting our focus onto God and off of the
thing or things that are causing our angst.
Hockey isn’t life or death and in the eternal scheme of things is pretty
unimportant. Yet a case could be made
that it is a microcosm of life itself where there are highs and lows, exhilaration
and desperation. Place your focus on the
solver of all problems and release your frustration. rlk
