“Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.” (Hebrew 7:26-27)
Old Testament High Priests were holy men from the tribe of Levi, as ordained by God. They carried out the sacrificial ordinances by offering sin sacrifices for the people of Israel. Each year a Jew must have his sins expunged through a blood sacrifice. Melchizedek appears in scripture as a type of Christ, in that he had no beginning or end to his life (Hebrews 7:1-10). Christ came “in the order of Melchizedek and not in the order of Aaron” (v.11), from whence earthly priests came. Christ was the one priest who had no beginning and has no end and is the only one who can remove the sins of all men once for all time because of who He is; the Son of the Most High God. His shed blood was all that was needed to completely eradicate the sins of each and every man. To eradicate means to “pull up by the roots”, thus doing away with it completely. That is exactly what the blood of Christ does for us. It must, however, be understood that this ‘gift’ of grace from God must be accepted. We don’t stand forgiven by osmosis. We must recognize our need of cleansing and receive forgiveness by asking Christ to come into our heart and life by His Holy Spirit. That’s when changes begin to take place for us if we will allow them. Our free will allows us to receive forgiveness and simply walk away just as 9 of the 10 lepers did when they were healed by Jesus in Luke 17:11-19.
Receiving Christ into our lives is a monumental event in a person’s life. Every sin you have ever committed in your entire life up to that point in your existence has been removed from your record; you have been completely cleaned. As way of illustration, think of how difficult tar is to remove from any part of your body; it is nearly impossible. Now think of Christ’s blood as a type of solvent, if I might be permitted to use such a lowly comparison, which totally wipes away all remnants of the tar, residue and all. That is, in a manner of speaking, what Christ’s blood has done for us. Therefore in the words of Jesus, you are forgiven, “go and sin no more” (John 8:1-10).
WALK WITH THE KING TODAY AND BE A BLESSING!
