Numbers 14:18a
‘The Lord is slow to anger and
filled with unfailing love, forgiving every kind of sin and rebellion.”
Psalm 86:15
“But you, O Lord, are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get angry
and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.”
Moses interceded for the
people of Israel by declaring to God some of his characteristics. He was and still is a patient, merciful,
loving and forgiving God. The people of Israel were often stiff necked and
disobedient which caused the leaders great consternation. Yet God knew their tendencies and still loved
them without condition. Man’s tendency
to say and do the wrong thing at the worst possible time hasn’t changed over
all these years. The Lord knows we still have a predisposition to do that which
is unwise and impulsive because he created us.
God is inclined to forgive whatever we have said or done if we will
confess and reform our ways.
Paul, who knew the Law
inside and out, tells Roman believers in chapter 2 verse 13 of that epistle “…
merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the
law that makes us right in his sight.” In other words, men is not condemned for
what they don’t know, but for what they do
(or don’t do) with what they do know. God condemns no man; men condemn
themselves to hell by their own actions or inactions.
The never-ending love of
God will not allow him to turn his back on any of us in spite of our indiscretions. If must allow the Holy Spirit to move upon
our hearts daily so we will end up living lives that fall more in line with the
standards of God. Living any old way we choose won’t cause God to give up on
you, but it will delay your conversion to the truth that will change your
life. The Lord has all the qualities we
are looking for. Emulate his example and find peace. Until next time, walk with the King and be a
blessing!
