“We should help others do what is right and build them
up in the Lord.” - Romans 15:2
New Living Translation
Helping others within the body of Christ
is how you build unity. Paul’s letter to the Roman believers speaks of unity by
way of physical and spiritual help.
To encourage and edify someone when they need precisely that is a gift
that comes from discerning ones spirit and countenance. The Lord will lead you
to those who need a word to help them on their way. Life can be extremely
difficult, but the Lord makes it easier. It all comes from our trust in his
ability to save us from ourselves. It should be common knowledge that we tend
to be our own worst enemy. Knowing there are those who are spiritually in tune
enough to know when their help is needed can be a tremendous boost to our
faith.
Edification is to morally or spiritually
uplift someone. It is not done for ourselves, but rather a selfless act to lift
up another. Simply praying for someone can be uplifting. An inspirational song
can be. A sermon can be. A person’s cheery disposition can be. If we truly seek
to be like Christ in our daily lives, then we will be an inspiration and help
to someone who crosses our path at any given moment. That is why we must always
be ready to step outside ourselves and minister the love of Christ to those we
encounter, especially our brethren. Until next time, walk with the King and be
a blessing!
