“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”- Matthew 7:7-8
These verses are generally accepted as an example of persistence in prayer. Prayer can be conversation with God, but most of the time it’s our effort to ask God for answers to questions or request something. We must truly know who we are praying to. Scripture tells us to draw near to God and He will draw near to you. To draw near to God, one must humble themselves, resist the enemy, purify their heart and remain loyal to the Lord. (James 4:7-8)
Some people are lacking what they seek either because they simply don’t ask God or ask with the wrong motive. James 4:2b-3 says, “You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” Ask whatever you wish, and you shall receive it, but there’s one stipulation: “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” (John 15:7) Whatever you seek should always line up with God’s Word and God’s will for your life. You will not be receiving any old thing your heart desires unless it’s what God knows is good for you.
God isn’t hard of hearing and isn’t slow to act as we know slowness. He acts when you would receive the greatest benefit and it would bring Him the greatest glory. We can expect an answer, not because of anything we’ve done in the way of praying, but rather because God is the one being prayed to. Whatever God says He will do, He will do. His timing is always right, and His answers are always concise; exactly what we need at exactly the right time. Trust God because we all have a favorable track record with Him. He has never let any of us down and I don’t expect that He ever will. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing.
