“Now then, my children,
listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. Listen to my instruction and
be wise; do not disregard it. Blessed
are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.
For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord.” Proverbs 8:32-35
Man goes
about his business each day and never even considers eternity. The believer who is tuned into the Spirit of
God is keenly aware of it. We listen for
God to speak, whether through a song, a sermon, a teaching or the scriptures
themselves. The world hears nothing due
to the cacophony of noise that besieges them each day. They don’t know what direction to turn for
sound is coming from all directions.
Those who know the Lord have the God given ability to tune out the chaos
and focus on that which comes in the stillness.
Wisdom is
the ability to discern or judge that which is true and right. Truth is supposedly
all around us, but eternal truth flows from the mouth of Almighty God. God’s instruction is meant for anyone who
seeks it. The Lord has set a standard that the world has
rejected. That is their folly. The world lusts after pleasure and will go to
any lengths to find it. Consequences never cross their minds as they wander
aimlessly in search of lasting satisfaction.
It cannot be found anywhere but in the Lord.
Listening
and hearing are two very different things.
To listen is to pay attention; to hear is to listen attentively. To be attentive is to be alert and
observant. To merely listen is to
potentially miss the message. To listen attentively allows one to grasp the
significance or importance of what is being spoken. Listening attentively to the Spirit of God as
He speaks will enable us to find life, peace, stability and favor from the
Lord. We will be blessed if we incline
our ear to the Lord consistently. It’s
the only way we can truly begin to know God in all His glory. Until Christ returns, walk with the King and
be a blessing!
