STAY FOCUSED

“…let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.”
Hebrews 12:1b-2a
New Living Translation
Running a race is a great illustration for the Christian life in that we need to pace ourselves and constantly train to become better. To be a mature Christian we must also train, by fellowshipping with our Lord, reading his word and praying. Going to a biblically sound preaching & teaching church is also an important ingredient in the life of a believer. The key to this whole deal is focusing on Christ. No other prize this side of heaven can offer us what Christ offers. He offers eternal life free from sin.
As important as it is, it’s not always easy to hold your focus. It involves your mind, body & senses. We must ask the Holy Spirit to enable us to block out those annoying distractions that buffet us continuously throughout the day. Even when we are successful in our quest to listen to the Lord, it shouldn’t stop there. We must put feet to our faith thru obedience to that which we have been told. It is not the casual believer that will necessarily be able to hear what is being said to their spirit. It is in times of meditation or times of scripture reading, for example, that we may hear a word from God.
Being in the center of God’s will for you is the safest place for a Christian to be. Being outside his will based on what you thought you heard is a scary place. The Lord doesn’t abandon you, but you are not where he wants you. So nourish your soul with scripture, both read & spoken and stay keenly focused on what Christ desires for you.
Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
