WHAT'S THE HURRY?

Jeremiah 14:22 (NKJV) Are there any among the idols of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Are You not He, O LORD our God? Therefore we will wait for You, since You have made all these.”

Psalm 25:5 (NKJV) Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day.

Waiting on God can be extremely frustrating for those of us who seek instant solutions to our problems.

Waiting is rooted in our faith. Do we have faith in God to answer our prayers? Do we have faith in God to actually DO what He has promised? What is faith again?

Hebrews 11:1 (NLT) “Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.”

Waiting. Waiting in line at the grocery store; waiting in gridlock traffic; waiting for a phone call regarding a job; waiting … .

WAIT (def): To remain or stay in expectation of; to be in readiness.

It is interesting that the dictionary definition of the word “wait” says “to be in readiness; stay in expectation”. I guess I never really thought about it like that, but essentially, waiting intrinsically and automatically involve some level of faith by definition.  It is not supposed to involve impatience or anger, but that ends up being where waiting takes us emotionally. It is only because we would have allowed it to take that ugly turn, but it happens and quite frequently, I am sad to say. If you doubt that, look up the gas line shootings of the 1970’s, where people were so desperate to not only get fuel for their vehicles, but get it quickly before it was all used up. Some folks resorted to extreme violence to get what they felt they were entitled to and it was as a result of having to wait longer than they felt they should have to.

Waiting requires patience. Patience involves a measure of hope. Hope is eventually rewarded with fulfillment. But waiting is nearly always involved in the process. There are no McDonald’s in heaven.  God’s time table is not our own. To God a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day.  Time is totally irrelevant to God.  In the blink of an eye He can alter the course of the mightiest rivers; if He can do that, He can most assuredly do whatever might be required to “fix” your situation. However, it invariably involved waiting.

It is said that “anything worth having is worth waiting for”.  You wouldn’t know it with the frenetic pace some people keep, but I believe it to be true. We push and prod; we try to force the square peg into the round hole instead of waiting for the square peg to arrive. When will we ever learn?

Proverbs 14:12 & 16:25 (NKJV) “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”

We think we know, but we don’t. If we stay in a hurry we never will. Ask God this day to fill you with peace that you may allow your faith to kick in and receive in God’s perfect timing, all He has in store for you.

WALK WITH THE KING AND BE A BLESSING!
