As we pick up with verse 10 of Chapter 1 we find Paul referencing a common foe to the church of that day. It was none other than the Judaizers. These false teachers intermingled with Christian churches spreading their version of the Gospel, which was a mixture of grace thru Christ and works thru keeping the Law. Christ satisfied the requirements of the Law once for all time when he shed his blood on the cross. His blood sacrifice didn’t just cover up the peoples sins for a year, but cleansed them or washed them away as if they never existed. The false doctrine of the Judaizers is strongly condemned in Acts 15 and Paul’s Letter to the church in Galatia.
The reference Paul makes to the Judaizers, though not mentioned by name, is in verses 10 & 11. A false teaching left unchecked within the house of truth will breed mass confusion. Neither Jew, nor Gentile must still follow the Law of Moses if they have embraced the truth presented in the Gospel of Christ. Paul’s forceful statement in verse 11 leaves us no doubt where he stands and what Titus must do. “They must be silenced …”. The last thing any church needs is conflicting doctrines being presented.
How does this minister to us in this present day? There are many false doctrines floating about, which is why a believer in Christ must read the Word of God regularly and attend a Bible believing church. How else would they keep their spirit man strong and vibrant? If you have any doubt as to what church to attend, ask the Lord to reveal where he wants you to go, so that you can grow spiritually and in turn be a blessing to others. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
