It Shall be Done

“You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For, ‘In just a little while, he who is coming will come and will not delay.’” - Hebrews 10:36-37

Spending eternity with Christ is the result of the blessed hope, which is Christ’s return. When Christ returns in the clouds He will not touch down as with His Second Coming, but rather we will be caught up with Him in the air to meet Him  (1 Thessalonians 4:17). Habakkuk 2:3 makes reference to the coming of Christ as he tells believers of his day of ‘the revelation’ which ‘awaits an appointed time’; it goes on to say that it is speaking of the end times. Believers are instructed to ‘wait for it’ for it will ‘come and will not delay’.

From the moment Christ ascended to heaven (Acts 1:9-11) the ‘end times’ or the ‘end of days’ began. The believers in Jesus time believed even then that His return was imminent. As if waiting on God isn’t excruciating enough at times, I do believe waiting for over 2000 years might try anyone’s patience. The following verses explain the delay:

2 Peter 3:8-9 “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

In other words, time as we know it is meaningless to God. He created time. We are to trust Him that He truly is in complete control of all things and has our best interests in mind. That requires submission. Generally speaking, people don’t like being subservient to anyone, let alone someone they cannot see, but that is what is required.

Everything in God’s economy happens with perfect synchronization; while not at the same time, it all works perfectly like gears meshing together to run a machine. God’s plan for His creation is flawlessly performed throughout the ages without misstep or mistake. Everything happens for a reason. We may never know the reason(s); however, God does. Our faith and trust must allow for the providence of God. The creature shall never know more or be more than its creator. Our allegiance and servitude needs to lie with one and that one is God Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. God promised He would return for us. Just because we see no evidence of it with the naked eye should we doubt it? The very definition of faith flies in the face of that statement. Trust in God to fulfill all He has planned from the beginning of the age. He shall do it just as He has said. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing.
