REST

Genesis 2:2-3 (NIV) “By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.”

It is interesting to me that we humans think our lives are so complex and we are sooooo busy all the time. In Genesis 1 we see all that God accomplished in six days. And we gripe about a 5 day work week (lol). If God had known all the grief mankind would cause Him, do you think He would have reconsidered with regards to creating him? Well, He DID know and He created us anyway, although at times I know I myself have wondered why He even bothered.
< chuckle - smile >

The point I am building up to is this: we will rush about to work and at work and from work to our homes or apartments and crash land for the evening eagerly awaiting the weekend when we can run to the stores or do our chores or take off for the lake or go hunting or fishing or whatever we decide to do and many times don’t take the time to rest. Our bodies need rest. Sure we rest at night when we are asleep. But what about the stress we put on our bodies all the rest of the time. God saw fit to rest “from all the work of creating that he had done”. Okay, we didn’t create the universe, but we weren’t meant to. We are to live for God in whatever way He calls us to.

It is a curious thing that we get so wrapped up in ourselves and our little dramas and conflicts and we seem to think that quietly sitting watching TV or reading a magazine or whatever is going to revitalize us. Now don’t misunderstand me … there is nothing wrong with any of the things I have mentioned above. But do they take place to the exclusion of God in our lives. Have we boxed Him out with all we are doing? Have we neglected our time with Him. I know I have more times than not, so don’t think for one minute I am pointing a finger at anyone.

This is not meant as a entry of condemnation, for scripture clearly tells us that there is no condemnation for those who walk uprightly:

Romans 8 (NIV) There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”

I am just trying to make us all think about what we are doing with our lives.  I know it is so easy to slip into habits. Don’t think I don’t come home from church and sit in front of TV and watch football the rest of the day, because I do. All I am saying is maybe we should be a little more God conscience with our actions rather than inwardly conscience. We’ve not been short changed in this life by God; by others perhaps, but not by our Heavenly Father. And NO, I am not advocating spending your entire Sunday locked in a dark room meditating on the heavenlies unless God is calling you to do that. But without God where would we be? Think before we act or react to things that are around us. Ponder the greater questions. Spend time with God. Practice listening, for if we don’t, we will miss hearing the “still small voice” of His Spirit when He is speaking to our spirit.

It seems a mystery to me that He loved us before we ever even knew Him. But He did and He does. For that we should be eternally grateful.

Lord, forgive us for being selfish with the time YOU have given us. Help us not to be so heavenly minded that we are no earthly good, but rather help us to be Your hands extended and a blessing to those needing a touch from You. In Jesus name … amen.

WALK WITH THE KING TODAY AND BE A BLESSING!!
