“I have rejoiced in your laws as much as in riches.” - Psalm 119:14 New Living Translation
A testament is something that
provides proof or evidence; it’s a statement of belief. The Bible has an Old
Testament and a New Testament. The Laws of Moses cover the Old Testament and
God’s grace covers the New Testament. The Mosaic Law was the standard the
followers of God were to abide by in that day. The Law was replaced by God’s
grace once Christ came. The law no longer binds us yet if we are living to
please God we will end up living out his laws as a natural outcropping of
serving him. His laws do not restrict us but rather enable us to be all God
knows we can be in this life.
The comparison of rejoicing in God’s Law as much as a person would in
great riches may seem odd, especially to those in the world, but the follower
of Christ has come to realize that while money is necessary to exist, it is
easily spent and therefore does not last. Following God’s standards will lead
us to true fulfillment, contentment and peace. This is something money cannot
do no matter how great the amount happens to be.
You may find yourself struggling financially, but even if you were given
the resources to eliminate your monetary woes you would still not be content.
Money is one of those things a person seems to think they never have enough of.
That which the Lord offers cannot be purchased with money. The one who meets
our needs is the Lord. He is in Hebrew terms our Jehovah Jireh (ji’rah), our
provider. There is nothing that we are in need of that God will not provide for
us. So love God’s laws and live according to his statutes and you will find
that while life this side of heaven will never be perfect, it will be the best
it can be because of God’s involvement. Until next time, walk with the King and
be a blessing!
