“And it is impossible to please God without faith.
Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he
rewards those who sincerely seek him.” – Hebrews 11:6 New Living Translation
Something that is impossible is something
that is ‘not capable of being accomplished’. While it is said that nothing is
impossible for God, there are many things that are impossible for mortal man.
If one wishes to come to God that person must accept that his existence is real
and true and must have a sincere and determined desire to not only seek him but
also find him. The writer of Hebrews states that it is impossible to please God
without faith. The very definition of faith believes in something that is
unseen as if it can be seen. It doesn’t say how much faith you need, just that
you must have faith. Jesus speaks of faith the size of a mustard seed in the
gospels (Matthew
17:20). The mustard seed is a seed about
the size of a pinhead, so it doesn’t take a lot of faith to please God. Just as it only takes one
drop of Jesus’ blood to save a sin sick soul, it only takes the tiniest amount
of faith to please our Lord.
What reward shall we receive from God for
seeking him. It doesn’t say, but it wouldn’t be anything material, since
material things are temporal. The reward could be his presence in our lives or
forgiveness of sins or eternity with him, take your pick. All are worthy
rewards and more than generous in light of what we have without him. What is
also required is a submissive spirit, for it breeds healthy results.
Just knowing that nothing is impossible
for God should encourage us. As we submit to his will for our lives nothing
shall be unattainable. Pleasing the Lord needs to be our top priority in this
life. Pleasing oneself results in an inadequate blessing. Pleasing God will, in
the end, result in an eternity with him.
Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
