UNDERSTANDING WHAT REALLY MATTERS

“I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return.”  - Philippians 1:9-10 New Living Translation
Paul prays for the believers in Philippi and in that prayer he expresses his desire that they would continue to grow in knowledge and discernment or understanding. There are many things in this life we view as very important to us. But what matters most to us? Paul wants the Philippians to live pure and sinless lives until the 2nd Coming of Christ. That’s what was suppose to matter most to them & it is what should matter most to us as well.
The key ingredient in all this is love, which is an action verb. It’s not some passive emotion that has no meaning or purpose. When utilized to it’s highest potential, love can make wrongs right and provide forgiveness. Love is far superior to any other emotion we’ve been given. Jesus Christ was the physical manifestation of love; a legacy that lives on thru his followers. Psalm 145:8 lets us know this about God: that he is “gracious & merciful, slow to anger & abounding in steadfast love”.  That is the path the Lord wishes for us to travel.
God wishes us to be gracious, merciful, patient, kind and overflowing with love, just as he is. Thru the power of the Holy Spirit we can achieve this. It will take time, probably the rest of your life, but what a legacy you could leave when you are promoted to glory. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
