ISAIAH
This is the 23rd book of the OT. Its’ author is the Prophet Isaiah. The events chronicled in Chapters 1-39 took place during Isaiah’s prophetic ministry, therefore, they were more than likely written around 700 BC. Chapters 40-68 may have been written towards the end of his life (about 681 BC).
The blueprint for this book involves “Words of Judgment” (Ch.1:1-39:8) & “Words of Comfort” (Ch. 40:1-66:24). I will break that down in my next post.
The Purpose of this writing: To call the nation of Judah back to God & to tell of God’s salvation plan thru His Son Jesus of Nazareth ... the Messiah from OT Prophecy.
NOTE: Isaiah has been said to have written the most prophesies about the coming of Jesus. After doing a little research into the matter, it would appear that Isaiah prophesied regarding the coming of the Messiah 22 times. My 2nd post on Isaiah, as I already stated, will look at the blueprint followed in the book of Isaiah. My 3rd post on Isaiah will look at the 22 prophecies and their fulfillment from the NT.
Important Points from Isaiah:
1) Isaiah prophesied during the reign of 4 Judean kings ... Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz & Hezekiah. It appears that the prophet met his death by the order of the 5th king, the evil King Manasseh.
2) The early chapters of Isaiah give detailed judgments against the people who had turned their backs on the Lord. Later chapters show God’s faithfulness, even though mankind is stubborn & sinful.
3) Isaiah doesn’t prophecy about our times or the end times. His focus was on the people of his day who would be exiled if they didn’t rededicate their lives unto the Lord. He also spoke quite a bit on the times of Christ and his birth, life & death.
Special Features found in Isaiah: “The book of Isaiah contains both prose & poetry & uses personification (attributing personal qualities to divine beings or inanimate objects). Also, many of the prophecies in Isaiah contain predictions that foretell a soon-to-occur event & a distant future event at the same time.” [The Life Application Study Bible]
Make sure to come back tomorrow to experience the results of my deeper dive into the book of the prophet Isaiah. Until then, walk with the King and be a blessing.
