As the pandemic has moved thru our world we are starting to see signs of all shape and sizes saying we should “show kindness” to one another at this time. The actual truth of the matter is that we ought to show kindness to others all the time. I was thinking about that the other day and came up with this thought … it requires patience to be kind.
If you will recall, kindness is a Fruit of the spirit and so is patience. They go hand in hand with the other fruit such as goodness, mercy and compassion. Being kind has a lot to do with being selfless, as opposed to being selfish. You are not inclined to be kind to others if you are selfish, because even when you are kind it’s typically for selfish motives. Being kind for the right reasons requires patience. You must strip yourself of ‘you’ and get down to the place where what others desire is more important than what you desire.
It’s all about leaving your comfort zone. We like our comfort zone. We feel safe there. Stepping out of the zone reveals our tender white underbelly, which is vulnerable to attack. We are to be kind for kindness sake and not to get a return. This pandemic is bringing out the kindness of people toward others. Perhaps this is what it took to get peoples’ attention. Under normal circumstances we tend to be too self-centered. When our focal point is Christ our tendency shifts to God-centered thoughts and actions. Our focal point needs to be God-centered to avoid being self-centered. It takes a conscious effort, but we can do it with the help of the Holy Spirit. Until next time, walk with the King a be a blessing!
