The Miracles of Jesus

The Healing of Peter’s Mother-in-Law

Matthew 8:14-17 NLT

“When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.” Matthew 8:14-15

Jesus’s miracles were for the purpose of defining his authority. Because of whom he was, namely the Son of God (God incarnate), Jesus had all authority to heal and to save from sin which was displayed at his crucifixion. When the Temple veil* was torn from top to bottom it indicated that it had been torn by a heavenly force providing open access to God for all.

Here we see that when the Lord came to Peter’s home he found that his mother-in-law was ill with a fever. All Jesus did was touch her hand, without saying a word and she was made well. This was to be just another piece of evidence that Jesus was indued with the power of God.

The mother-in-law didn’t have to recover or rest, as shown by the writer saying, “she got up and began to wait on him”. A complete and total healing as if there had been nothing wrong with her.

Furthermore, it says that many people filled with demons were healed along with all others who came to him for healing. The incredible thing to me is that he said, “he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick”. One single word or phrase, perhaps something as simple as “be healed”, we are not told. But Jesus obviously had the authority and the divine power to say and do all that he did. Amazing! Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing.

In his name & for his glory,

The veil that separate ‘the Holy Place’ from the ‘Most Holy Place’ or the ‘Holy of Holies’** is reported to have been 30 feet high by 30 feet wide and though the Bible doesn’t tell us its’ thickness, it is speculated to be up to 4 inches thick and made of woven fabric. It was said that only Almighty God himself could have torn the veil in two.

** 1 Kings 6:19-20 tells us that the dimensions of ‘The Holy of Holies’ were 30x30x30.
