Isaiah at a glance - The Prophecies (2)

ISAIAH

The Prophecies

This is the 2nd installment of the Messianic prophecies seen in the book of Isaiah.

Isaiah 52:13 “See, my servant will prosper; he will be highly exalted.”

It’s fulfillment: “Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,...”.

Isaiah 52:14 “But many were amazed when they saw him. His face was so disfigured he seemed hardly human, and from his appearance, one would scarcely know he was a man.”

It’s fulfillment: Mark 15:17-19 - “They dressed him in a purple robe, and they wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head.  Then they saluted him and taunted, “Hail! King of the Jews!” And they struck him on the head with a reed stick, spit on him, and dropped to their knees in mock worship.”

Isaiah 53:5 “But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.”

It’s fulfillment: 1 Peter 1:2 - “God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ.”

Isaiah 53:2b-3 - “There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him. He was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.”

It’s fulfillment: John 12:37-38 - “But despite all the miraculous signs Jesus had done, most of the people still did not believe in him. This is exactly what Isaiah the prophet had predicted...”.

Isaiah 53:4-5 “Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.”

It’s fulfillment: Romans 4:25 - “He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God.” 1 Peter 2:24-25 - “He personally carried our sin in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed. Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.”

I try to envision the scene of Christ’s crucifixion to make it more real to me. Mel Gibson’s “The Passion” was pretty graphic ... some may have thought it was too graphic, but I think it is extremely important that we see the crucifixion for what it was. One speaker, a number of years ago, said ‘Jesus was beaten so badly that he looked like raw hamburger meat.’ Now that paints a rather raw, blunt image in your mind. Jesus willingly took all the punishment that was meant for each one of us. His resolve was uncompromising.

Fulfilled prophecy helps galvanize that which is true. Were the prophets ‘lucky’ to have predicted with incredible accuracy what was to take place to a man who hadn’t even been born yet, or did they hear from God? What do YOU think?

We are called to LIVE OUT the word of God every day. Don’t cheapen God’s grace or nullify Christ sacrificial death by doing your own thing. Be all in and seek to please God with your life. The Bible is the only book that tells you how.

Next up is the 3rd installment of the Messianic prophecies from Isaiah. Until then, walk with the King and be a blessing.

In His Name & for His Glory,

Richard Keller
