Romans 14:11-13 New Living Translation
“‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bend
to me and every tongue will declare allegiance to God.’” Yes, each of us will
give a personal account to God. So let’s stop condemning each other. Decide instead
to live in such a way that you will not cause another believer to stumble and
fall.
Many folks
seemed to think they can do whatever they want without any repercussions.
Christians also think this way basing their moral judgments on opinion,
personal dislikes and/or cultural bias rather than the Word of God. So many believers take a hard line against
certain people or groups of people thinking in their heart they are doing the
Lord’s work. Nowhere do I see Christ casting hate in the direction of those who
do not choose to follow him. We will all give a full account of our words and
actions. We will not be given a chance
to defend our position for in God’s economy they are indefensible. We are to adhere to the principles of
scripture, not what we feel they should be.
Many take a
verse or verses out of context and use it as a club to batter down others. We are not called to do that. We are called to show others God’s mercy and
grace, as we love them into the kingdom of God. We need to concentrate on
living in such a way that our words and actions do not cause a brother or
sister in Christ to trip and fall on their face. We need to cultivate an
attitude of gratitude and humility. If
it were not for the grace and mercy of God we would all be bound for an
everlasting hell.
Christ is the
manifestation of God’s mercy. Should we
then not show mercy to others? When you
stand before God he will not be concerned at that moment with anyone but you,
so be sure you know what scripture says about your words and actions and live
accordingly. Until next time, walk with
the King and be a blessing!
