Deuteronomy 6:4-5
New Living Translation
“Listen, O
Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your
God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.”
The one characteristic that stands out
of the Hebrew religion is the fact that it is monotheistic in nature; as in
they only believe in one God. Many other religions throughout history have
believed in many gods, which sets them apart from Judaism. This declaration,
along with the statement in Leviticus 19:18 to love your neighbor as yourself,
is the first and greatest commandment of God to man. So much so that it
supersedes all other commandments in authority. If you honor this commandment
it logically follows that you would honor the others as a result of your
commitment to God.
This held true back in Moses day and it
still holds true today. That is because God’s word is eternal. It is the ‘yea
and amen’. What is true shall be true for all time. If you devote your life to
the Lord, your life will not automatically become carefree. At times it will
seem to be infinitely more difficult, but this isn’t the fault of God.
Sometimes it is our own fault for the choices we have made, other times it is
our faith being testing. The Lord is ever watching and intervening when he is
called upon. He is not belligerent, nor does he force his will on anyone. Our
free will allows us to choose which path we shall take.
We must accept the fact that everything
begins and ends with Almighty God. Not believing that doesn’t alter its
reality. Some folks will try absolutely anything before then would turn to God.
He becomes their last resort. How sad for time wasted. Christianity is
portrayed in a very unseemly manner thru the media. In some cases their distain
is warranted, but most times it is not.
We do not live to please men. We live to please God. We will never
please men; we already are pleasing to our Lord. Deepen your dedication to the Lord and watch his hand move in your life. Until next time, walk with
the King and be a blessing!
