Ephesians 6:14-17 New
International Version
“Stand firm then, with the belt
of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in
place, and with your feet fitted with
the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all
this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the
flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of
the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
Shoes or boots, which
were sometimes of iron, and sometimes of brass, are reckoned among the armor of soldiers. They were
essential to the ancient armor. If the feet or legs were materially wounded, a man can neither
stand to resist his foe, pursue him if vanquished, nor flee from him should he have to. The shoes of readiness are of
equal importance to the armor of
God. [1]
It is my belief, based on the opening
chapter of Job in the Old Testament, that Satan, our great adversary, must
first seek permission from God to attack one of His children. Attacks will come at us. Our lives may
become a veritable minefield filled with traps set by our enemy. It is only
with the full armor of God that we can survive. It is our choice to make. We
don’t have to do a thing to serve God but exist or we can rise up and head into
battle. We have been chosen by Almighty God to spread the word that forgiveness
is freely available and necessary to obtain passage into heaven. Evil cannot
abide in the presence of God and therefore those who shun Him shall be shunned on
the last day.
Avail yourself of this piece of
armor, for being spiritually in tune with where you are, where you are going
and what you are to do is vitally important to your survival as a believer. Satan has no hold on you. He can do nothing
to you that you yourself do not allow. You can be sure that if God is testing
your faith the safest place is in the center of His perfect will for you. Until
next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
James
4:7-8a (NIV) “Submit yourselves, then, to God.
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Come near to God and he will come near to you.”
