“Hold on to the pattern of wholesome teaching you
learned from me; a pattern shaped by the faith and love that you have in Christ
Jesus. Through the power of the Holy
Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been
entrusted to you.”-
2 Timothy 1:13-14 New
Living Translation
This was the Apostle Paul’s second letter to Timothy. Timothy was the
protégé of Paul, following him thru one missionary trip after another. In the
end, Paul appointed Timothy to be the head of the church in Ephesus. His letter
was one of instruction and encouragement. The teaching Timothy received from
Paul was something he was to pass on to his congregation.
Timothy’s faith in Jesus Christ was based on love; a deep, abiding love
for the man, a deep, abiding love for his teachings and all that he stood for.
Just as Timothy sought to imitate Christ, so we are to imitate Christ as well.
It’s very easy to get caught up in the daily grind and thus lose sight of that
which is most supremely important to us. Distractions abound but we must work
very hard to stay the course and do that which we know to be pleasing to the
Lord.
We have been given the one true teaching and mustn’t allow it to become
stagnant. It is vibrant and alive and must remain so to us as we share our
faith with others. Draw from that which you have been taught and know to be
true. It is your lifeline to Almighty God. Until next time, walk with the King
and be a blessing!
