Jesus
replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we
will come and make our home with each of them. Anyone who doesn’t love me will
not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is
from the Father who sent me.” - John 14:23-24 New Living Translation
There are no doubt millions of people who say they love Jesus, but
the true test of our love is to do what he has said. When Christ says he and
his father will make their home in each believer, which means the entirety of
the Triune God lives within us in the person of the Father, the Son and the
Holy Spirit. They are 3 in 1.
Those
who mouth words of allegiance yet continue to live by their own rules must not
love the Lord. Just like the statement “if ‘A’ equals ‘B’, then ‘B’ equals
‘A’”, if you don’t love the Lord you will not obey him and if you don’t obey
him you do not love him. They are one in the same. So you cannot say with any
accuracy that you love God if you refuse to submit to his teachings. There is
no commitment in that statement. No selfless devotion.
God
the Father spoke such words thru God the Son as a means of helping his
listeners understand the true commitment that was necessary in following Jesus.
It’s quite simple really: if you love the Lord you will do your level best to
serve him with your whole heart, mind, soul and strength. Being human you will
stumble and fall a number of times, but it is not in the falling but in the
getting up again that growth takes place. Until next time, walk with the King
and be a blessing!
