“Praise the Lord, the God of
Israel, because he has visited and redeemed his people. He has sent us a mighty
Savior from the royal line of his servant David, just as he promised through
his holy prophets long ago.” - Luke 1:68-70 New Living Translation
Just
as was prophesied in the Old Testament, God sent to earth a child, his Son, to
save all mankind from their sin. The Lord, speaking thru Zechariah, the father
of John the Baptist, referred to the one sent by God as “a mighty Savior” from
the royal line of David. What great news! Man was to be forgiven.
Man, in this day and age, sees no
need for a Savior. In this age of hard, cold facts, the Bible is nothing more
than a nice story. Maybe it’s true maybe it’s not, with most banking on the
fact that it’s not. They live their lives doing good things for others so they
can feel good about themselves, yet miss the entire point of salvation
altogether. If faith and trust in Almighty God is nothing more than a crutch
for the weak, then I will lean on it all day, every day, because I AM weak and
I know it. I don’t compare myself to those around me but to the one who created
me in the first place. Compared to God I am woefully ill prepared for eternity.
So you see, Jesus came whether
mankind believes it or not and he lived, ministered, bled & died for all.
That gift, the greatest gift ever given, must be received and applied to ones
life. Believing isn’t enough. That belief must lead to something else,
something more lasting. It is in a selfless life that we find peace. We are the
ones called upon to make others aware of this precious gift of forgiveness that
is available to them. The gifts we give and receive at Christmas time, while
wonderful in and of themselves, pale in comparison to the gift of salvation and
eternal life with God. Until next time,
walk with the King and be a blessing!
