“I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. … Those
who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will
find good pastures. The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My
purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” – John 10:7, 9-10 New Living Translation
Sheepherding was very prevalent in Jesus
day, so it makes perfect sense that he would use this type of illustration. We
are the sheep under Christ’s care. Just like there is one way in and out of the
sheepfold, with the Shepherd acting as the gate, so Jesus is the gate into
heaven; the only way in or out. Christ is the key and his blood is the payment
offered. Without Christ and his death there would be no hope of forgiveness and
we would all die in our sins. But God sent Jesus for that express purpose, to
save mankind from themselves. Christ’s blood is the key component; the element
God used to buy us back. Christ bridged our separation from the Lord.
Christians do not have a perfect life, but as we mature spiritually we will
learn to be at peace and satisfied with that which God has provided for us.
Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
