“Be joyful in hope,
patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” – Romans 12:12 NIV
There’s a woman at
work that’s a Christian. She hates her job and isn’t shy about letting people
know. She also hates the department lead. I had mentioned to her that she
needed to trust in God to carry her thru this difficult time. She said she
didn’t care about anything. She hated it in our department and didn’t want to
be there anymore. I told her the hate that she was carrying shown on her face, affected
her performance and made for a bad witness. She didn’t care about any of that.
I walked away from her very sad. She thinks it’s all about her and it’s not.
I’m not in love with my job either, but I haven’t allowed it to consume me. I
ask the Lord to use me to be a blessing to others in spite of the
circumstances. Perhaps this woman hasn’t reached a level of spiritual maturity
to respond that way. She has allowed a seed of bitterness to affect her life.
Hebrews 12:15 says: “See to it that no one
falls short of God’s grace; that no root of resentment springs up and causes
trouble, and by it many be defiled; … “. (AMPLIFIED) A root of bitterness by definition can mean an
attitude “marked by resentment or cynicism.” This woman is in a downward spiral of her own making
and it will no doubt not turn out well for her unless she allows the Lord to
pull her out of it.
It can be easy for this to happen to
any one of us. To ward it off we must focus on the Lord and not our problems.
That can be a lot easier said than done, but if we progress in our spiritual
maturity and don’t allow stagnation to occur we can reach that point when we
need to the most. We have faith in God for a reason and we need to allow that
faith to blossom into full trust that he is aware of our every situation and is
at work to strengthen us so we can withstand whatever comes our way. Until next
time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
