“Which of
you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a
scorpion? If you then, though you are
evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your
Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:13 NIV
It’s
hard for us to think of ourselves as evil, but it really depends on whom we
compare ourselves to. We tend to compare
ourselves to those around us, deciding we are either better or no worse then
they are. This is wrong thinking for we
truly only need to match ourselves up to our Maker to see that our sin makes us
comparatively evil. If we know how to
lavish good gifts on our sons and daughters, then how much greater is God that
He would lavish only the best gifts to us, His creation.
The Holy Spirit is a
significantly great gift, in that it represents the very presence of God within
us. He guides and directs us when we
don’t know which way to go. He comforts
us when we are in need of solace. He
provides whatever we need exactly when we need it.
God does not give us whatever
we desire, but rather, wishes us to draw close so that our desires line up with
His. He knows what is best for us. At that point it simply becomes a matter of
faith and trust. Our God is trustworthy
for there is no record of Him failing or making a mistake. Until next time,
walk with the King and be a blessing!
