“And
we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who
have been called according to his purpose.1” Romans 8:28
We
know from 1 Corinthians 6:12 (and 1 Corinthians 10:23) that while all things
are permissible not all things are beneficial or constructive. The purposes of God for His children are always beneficial. We love the Lord because He first loved us (1
John 4:19). To love is to obey. To obey brings about the will of God in your
life. The will of God works to our ultimate
good and greatest benefit. We believe
this by faith. Our faith leads us to
trust God in all things. You see, it’s
like a mathematical equation; 1 + 1 = 2.
Faith + trust = obedience.
Obedience brings about God’s purpose, which is good, helpful and
advantageous in this life.
We struggle with wanting to do
things on our own, straining at the leash to break free of the perceived
restraints that we feel have been placed upon us. God, in all His wisdom, understands our
struggles and is patient with us, far more patient than those in the world would
be. We strive to be autonomous, to make
things happen by our own power not realizing that God is the source of our
power. Without God we can do nothing of
any value. Most importantly, without
God’s help we can’t accomplish anything of any eternal worth.
When all is said and done, the Lord
is the One who molds the clay and makes good come out of every situation. No matter what appearances tell you or your
perception of something is, God remains in complete control and will bring
about great good from all situations you may find yourself in. It may not appear so on the surface, but as
things unfold you will begin to realize that things have turned out exactly as
they needed to. God loves you and
desires only good for you. Trust
Him. Until next time, walk with the King
and be a blessing!
1 according to his
purpose. The
purpose of God guarantees “good” for His people. For them this is not
necessarily ease and quiet, but being like Christ (vv. 17–23, 29). God’s
providence rules in such a way as to ensure everything that happens to us is
working for our ultimate good. [Reformation Study Bible].
