“Whoever of you loves life
and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips
from telling lies. Turn from evil and do
good; seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and
his ears are attentive to their cry; but the face of the Lord is against those
who do evil, to blot out their name from the earth.” Psalm 34:12-16
This
Psalm, written by King David, praises God and shares the benefit of living a
righteous life. Keeping your tongue from
evil and your lips from telling lies is the first warning he gives. This is not the way a Christian should
speak. We should exhibit the fruit of
the spirit that are “love, joy, peace,
forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control”
(Galatians 5:22-23). Out of such things
would not come evil talk or the telling of lies. The Lord is ever mindful of not only our
comings and goings, but every single thought, word, action and reaction that
takes place in our life before it even takes place. We must replace evil with the good of
scripture. Whatever we fill our minds
with is what will influence us when it comes time to speak, act or react.
Whatever evil exists around us should be shunned. We should make every effort to seek peace,
for God is against those who live according to the principles of evil. Satan and not God spawn such things. There are those today who do horrific acts of
terror to innocent people both home and abroad.
Be comforted by the fact that God promises to “blot out their name from the earth” at a preordained time unknown
to man.
The Lord is ever attentive to the cry of one of His
children. His eyes are on us both day
and night. He neither slumbers nor does
He sleep (Psalm 121:2-4). Live a
righteous life and you will be under God’s constant protection. Seek and do evil and you are on your own. The
Lord has no part in evil deeds and requires us to turn from such things
immediately upon receiving forgiveness for past sins. Shun evil and do good and you shall live long
and prosper even as your soul prospers (3 John 1:2). Until next time, walk with
the King and be a blessing!
