“Know therefore that the
Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a
thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.” Deuteronomy 7:9
God
had done remarkable things for the people of Israel and yet they still strayed
from Him. They were His chosen people, not because of their great size as a
nation, for they were quite small by comparison to the other nations
surrounding them. It was God’s choice to favor them. In spite of that favor they lost sight of His
majesty and supreme love for them and turned toward other things.
So it is to this very day.
Believers get caught up in the minutia* and lose sight of God’s
sovereignty and glory. It is in
acquiring a deep understanding of just exactly who God is and who we are in
relation to Him that should evoke a passion to serve Him out of undying
devotion. Those who either don’t believe
or say they do with their lips yet deny Him with their lifestyle do not grasp
the incredible importance attached to truly knowing the Lord. God is faithful even when we are not (2
Timothy 2:13) for He cannot deny who He is.
Regardless of how we behave, God is God and always will be. In Him there is no shadow of turning (James
1:17). What does that mean? It means “God is the ultimate Author of light. In Him
there are no changes of brightness or clarity. There is no fluctuation in His
character.” 1
Why do I continually
beat the drum to diligently keep God’s precepts? Do you not know the importance of serving the
Lord after you have received forgiveness for all your past indiscretions? It comes from a lack of comprehension. We must have a deep and abiding understanding
of precisely who God is, what He has done for us and who we become as a result
to fully grasp the magnitude of His greatness and our unworthiness. He makes us worthy by Christ’s blood. Never
lose sight of the importance of your relationship with your Heavenly
Father. Draw as close as you can to Him
and alter your lifestyle to reflect a life of devotion to the One who saved you
from and everlasting eternity apart from Him.
Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
