“The
Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being,
sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification
for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.” Hebrews 1:3
To radiate is to emit energy or simply put, to
shine glorious light. God is glorious,
which is characterized by great beauty and splendor. Now these are relative terms. What I think is beautiful may not be
beautiful to you. But I have a feeling
that the beauty and majesty that is
God will be more stunning and radiant than anything we have ever seen. Think of the most awesome scenery you’ve ever
laid eyes on. A sunset or sunrise. The southwestern plains. The Appalachian, Rocky or Smokey
mountains. A peaceful meadow with deer
drinking quietly from a motionless pond.
God created that, so it stands to reason that the creator of such
incredible beauty would be the very definition of beauty Himself. Christ radiates that beauty. He is the exact likeness of God and He
sustains all things by His word.
Whatever happens in this world is either caused or allowed
by God. To not be so would mean He wasn’t
in control of all things that took place in the world. Man’s free will to do as he pleases is what
causes the evil to take place in this world.
God doesn’t cause it, but does allow it for He forces His will on no one. Man has proven over the eons to have a strong
tendency to do the wrong thing. It is the person who is influenced by Christ
that does that which is pleasing to God, not the one who lives for himself. Christ provided purification from our sins
but we must accept that gracious gift and apply it to our lives. It’s not a blanket pardon for all mankind
without him seeking or asking for it. The
result of being forgiven is supposed to cause a change to take place in the
life of the guilty party. To make no
change in your behavior is to misunderstand the nature of the forgiveness
altogether.
There is significance to Christ’s sitting down. That action put a period at the end of the event. He was finished doing what He had been called on to do. It was over. Now Christ took His rightful place at the right hand of the Father where He watches over His creation. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
