“You were taught, with
regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being
corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your
minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness
and holiness.” Ephesians 4:22-24
This
is what the Apostle Paul meant when he said in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that we are a
new creature when we receive salvation.
The old has passed away, behold all things become new. We are to reject our previous lifestyle and
embrace a new, godly one, fashioned by God Himself. There is interesting imagery here in the
words “put off” and “put on”. It should
be as if we are taking off a frayed set of clothes in favor of a new set. Our former way of life offered much but delivered
little. Without spiritual eyesight we
never saw that. Now it has become plain
to us. The new self that God creates in
us by His Holy Spirit guides us into all righteousness and holiness.
The
world has no clue what they are missing out on.
If they knew they would be more interested; however, the ruler of this
world, namely Satan, has clouded the minds of the unregenerate souls in his
dominion so that they remain in their sin filled haze. Even those who would be considered good by
most standards fall far short of God’s glory and therefore are lost.
Our
attitude is a manner of thinking, feeling, or behaving that reflects a
state of mind or disposition. God,
through His Spirit, now influences our state of mind and disposition. The world has absolutely nothing of any
eternal value to offer us as believers.
We are to sell out to Christ for He sold out for us. Christ is returning for us sooner rather than
later. Trim your lamps and be ready
(Matthew 25:1-13). Until next time, walk
with the King and be a blessing!
