“In
him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in
accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us.” Ephesians
1:7-8a
One drop of Christ’s blood is worth more than
all the blood that has been spilled since the beginning of time. The reason is that it is the blood of God,
creator of the universe and man’s first breath.
There is nothing in existence that He did not create. Man, in all his wisdom and self-control,
racked up quite a whopping collection of sins.
God has always demanded payment or atonement for sin. Christ came at such a time when man had
proven time and time again that he would definitely need help conquering their
sin problem. They had nothing to offer
as payment to Almighty God, no explanation that would be acceptable. Sin is sin.
There is no such thing as large or small sins; disobedience to God is
just that, disobedience whether large or small.
There are always consequences that follow every decision we
make in life. The consequences of our
continued sinful lifestyle will result in what scripture calls “the second
death”1,
which is the death of our soul. However, there is hope for those who are in
need of a payment for their sins. Redemption is available, deliverance through
the incarnation, sufferings and death of Jesus Christ. Redemption is the payment of an obligation or
debt. Redemption, when fully realized,
brings about the mending of our relationship with God. Our sin separated us from Him and while He
still loved us in our sin, He required that sin to be paid for.
Why did God choose to forgive us? It is His grace, the undeserved favor of God
that causes Him to forgive. It is the
reason we are to forgive others regardless of their transgression. If we didn’t
forgive after such a great price was paid for our own forgiveness, how would we
show the transgressor what God’s grace feels like … favor that was in no way
deserved. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
1“Then I
saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the
heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the
dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened.
Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged
according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the
dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them,
and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and
Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone
whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake
of fire.”
