“God is our refuge and
strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains
fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains
quake with their surging.” Psalm 46:1-4
The great preacher and evangelist
Charles H. Spurgeon said this Psalm might have been titled THE SONG
OF HOLY CONFIDENCE. Israel’s solitary
hope for salvation from the calamities that befell them is Jehovah, the One
true and living God. Many in this life
arrogantly proclaim that “if God is real,
let Him show Himself!” That would negate the need for faith and faith it
the key that starts the engine of Christianity.
The Jews did not rely on their armies or their fortresses, but rather in
their God, who spoke all things into existence.
True born-again believers in Christ have chosen to believe that God is
exactly who He says He is, therefore there is nothing He is incapable of doing
for His children.
The events that scream out at us from
various media outlets tell us of the horrifying atrocities that are taking
place nearly every day. They may not
match those mentioned in the above verses, but in some ways they are much worse
for they have reached a very personal level.
Christians’ faith is being put to the test constantly with shocking
results. The believers are standing
firm. They are allowing themselves to be
martyred for their beliefs. This is the
will of God for to say it isn’t leaves room for some to say that the Lord God
was unaware of this or that event.
Rubbish! Believe what you wish,
but to not believe in Almighty God and His flawless word is to enter into a
very complicated alternate reality.
Without God there is no forgiveness.
Without God there is no mercy, compassion, peace or hope. Without God how does unregenerate man
survive? He doesn’t, that’s the
point. They need to search the deepest
recesses of their inner being for the truth about themselves. When the dust settles and none of their
friends and family are around to encourage their ignorance they need to come to
grips with their own personal situation.
For the believer who trusts in and
relies upon God for all their needs, cataclysmic events that take place in
their lives are nothing more than a challenge to their faith. God has not, nor will He ever fail us. He is our safe haven. He carries us when our strength has ebbed
away. When trouble strikes the Lord is there, in us and all around us by His
Spirit to help in any way necessary. The
world is blind to God’s existence. Their
rebellion is no different then that of earth’s inhabitants as Noah built the
Ark. And just as it was back then, the
world shall be thrown into full out panic when Christ comes and removes all
believers from the earth. We must live
like Christ for their sake and ours.
Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
NOTE: The Sons of
Korah – “It may be well to add that they
were a division of the Levites who took their turn in serving at the
temple.” Charles H. Spurgeon from Treasury of David.
