“With all my heart I seek
you. Do not allow me to stray from your
commands! In my heart I store up your
words, so I might not sin against you. You deserve praise, O Lord! Teach me
your statutes!” Psalm 119:10-12
Deuteronomy 6:5 states “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” In other words, we are to seek and serve the Lord with every fiber of our being. If we seek Him we shall find Him and His precepts will slowly become ingrained in us. God’s word tells us that He looks upon the heart of a man rather than his outward appearance (1 Samuel 16:7), therefore it is important to have your heart in tune with God’s precepts so you do not stray.

David,
the author of this Psalm, asks the Lord to keep him from straying from His
commands. David didn’t live a sinless
life and scripture shows us that he suffered severe consequences for his
actions. With a contrite heart and humble spirit he repented from any wrongdoing
he may have committed. David knew God’s word and stored it in his heart so that
he had that resource to draw from in difficult times. Today there is no other way to draw closer to
the Lord than to comb the scriptures diligently seeking wisdom and
understanding. With the Holy Spirit’s
assistance we can fill our mind, heart and soul with God’s words of life.
Be like
King David, seek and store up God’s words so that you will not sin against
Him. If you ask the Lord to teach you
the truths within His word He will do it because it is His supreme desire that
you learn and retain it. God wishes for
you to know Him and will pull down any obstacle that might be keeping that from
taking place. Learn to become in tune
with His spirit so that when instructions come you are ready for them. Shed all mortal reasoning and bolster your
faith because many things in God’s economy make no sense to the earthbound
mind. In the end you will have grown
exponentially based on your desire to do so.
Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
