SEEKING NOURISHMENT

“Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.” 1 Peter 2:2-3 New Living Translation
Although there were no doubt many recent converts in Asia Minor where this letter is sent, the message is also meant for the Jewish believers who due to heavy persecution were driven out of Jerusalem. Converts to Christianity are new born babes in Christ. They need to take spiritual baby steps before they can walk.
The Word of God is pure spiritual nourishment for the soul. We must crave it as a newborn baby craves their mother’s milk. It’s the only way we can grow in the Lord. Without growth we will become stunted and as a result good for nothing in the name of Christ.  The Lord in his immense kindness has offered us an incredible gift that should never be taken lightly. To have a huge debt expunged with no payback required is something that is hard to fathom and even more difficult to relate to. Would we do the same for someone who didn’t know us? I’m not sure; probably not. But the fact remains that God in his infinite wisdom paid our sin debt. It was a preplanned payment, something he had set his mind to do from the beginning of time. That is truly incredible. Before we even knew him he loved us and he demonstrated that love in Christ’s death.
Having been given such an unbelievable gift it stands to reason that we should want to draw near to God and know him as best we can. One clear way to know the Lord better is thru his Word. Feast on its riches and grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
