“… for we were born only yesterday and know nothing and our days on earth are but a shadow.”-Job 8:9
Ignorant: lacking education or knowledge; unaware or uninformed.
Have you ever thought about how quickly your life has flown by? I have lived on this earth a little over 64 years and I can’t believe how quickly it has gone. As we live our lives we encounter many things that give us pause, many things that cause us sorrow and many things that bring us joy. We are in control of our own emotions. Each one of us is a unique individual with gifts and characteristics placed there by our Heavenly Father at birth. However, one thing we must realize is that we are ignorant.
When it comes to the ways of God we are ignorant. We are as a grain of sand on the immense beach of life. In the general scheme of things we are incredibly insignificant, yet we have been made significant by God through His Son and what was done on Calvary’s cross. Our enemy of our soul would love us to believe that we are still insignificant … unimportant … without value. Any creation of God has high value. Our ignorance now lies in how we treat those around us.
Make no mistake about it we are still ignorant. Free will allows us to choose the path we take, the way we act and react to situations … but regardless of our choices, there are always those nagging consequences. We were created by God to serve Him and Him alone. Our lives should be a reflection of His grace and mercy, yet how often they are a reflection of our bad choices.
The amazing thing about the above verse is that God knows us. He knows we are ignorant. Do not misunderstand the word. It doesn’t mean that we are stupid, far from it. It means we are “unaware or uninformed.” It’s because we aren’t students of His word. Think about a topic that you are well versed in. Why do you know so much about that? You weren’t born with that knowledge. You studied. You read. You acquainted yourself with facts and reference guides. In time you became well versed on this topic, whether self-proclaimed or proclaimed by others. Do you think knowing and understanding the ways of God would come to you any differently? To remain in ignorance is a shame and unnecessary. We hold the key that unlocks a treasure trove of wonders and they are in one book … the Bible. As we prayerfully read and seek understanding our ignorance will fade away, turning to knowledge. We will never know it all, but that is no reason not to strive for it. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing! rlkeller
