PHILIPPIANS: The Mega Themes part 2

CHRISTIAN LIVING

EXPLANATION - In his letter to the Philippian church, Paul reveals to us how to live successful Christian lives. We gain spiritual maturity by being so identified with Christ that HIS attitude of humility and selfless sacrifice becomes ours. Christ is both the source of our spiritual power and via the Spirit, our guide.

IMPORTANCE - It is God working IN us that begins to develop our character, but it requires personal self-discipline, obedience to God’s Word and singular concentration. It is very easy to become distracted in this chaotic, devil controlled world. It takes razor sharp focus on the Lord to grow in the things of God.

JOY

EXPLANATION - No matter what may happen to us in this life, we, as believers in Christ, can achieve deep, profound contentment, serenity, and peace. It comes from knowing our Lord intimately and from depending on his strength instead of our own.

IMPORTANCE - Even in the midst of difficulties we can have peace and joy. It comes from inward strength, rather than outward circumstances. We must never rely on what we have or what we experience to bring us joy, but on Christ who lives in us.

NOTE - Think about how powerful knowing Christ personally truly means. If God has the power to raise Jesus from the dead, then is there anything he cannot do? As long as our focus remains on God and him alone, then the enemy has no hold on us, nor can he harm us in any way unless God allows it for his own purposes. (Read the book of Job in the OT)

Up next is a look at our Training for Christian Living. Until then, walk with the King and be a blessing.
