“…
anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a
new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
NLT
On the day
when people around the globe make New Year’s resolutions, I bring you this
verse. People vow to be a better people, to lose weight, to alter some phase of
their personality that they may realize is unbecoming and so on. But what if you could have a new life? It’s like getting a do over. To golfers it’s
known as a mulligan, where a lousy
shot, perhaps in a water hazard or the woods can be erased and you may take the
shot over. And just like the mulligan, where
there is only one awarded per 18 hole round of golf, you only get one shot at
this new life. Almighty God offers it,
but it comes with a stiff price tag. The
good news is that you don’t have to pay the price; it’s already been paid. Christ went to the cross to pay the price
owed for your sins. That’s better news
that 90% off anything in the store the day after Christmas!
For those
who have begun this new life, how’s it going?
It’s not a cakewalk, is it? But
it’s a wonderful change of pace from never knowing what comes next. Oh Christians don’t have the inside track on
knowing the future either, but we know the author of life and that He has
complete control over all things, so we don’t really care what’s coming as long
as He’s going thru it with us. We know
He is because as God said to Jacob in Genesis 28:15, “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, … . “ Since the Lord never plays favorites,
what stands as true for Jacob stands as true for us today.
Drop your
dirty rags at the door and enter into a clean, forgiven, new existence. For those who have been washed in the blood
of Christ, live in 2016 like your life matters, because it matters most of all to
the one who created you and it matters to those on this earth who love you
without condition. Until next time, walk
with the King and be a blessing!
