But now you must be holy in
everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say,
“You must be holy because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:15-16
Did you
know that we are holy at the point of our salvation? The fact of the matter is that while we
aren’t actually holy in the purest
sense of the word, we are seen as holy by God because He sees us thru the blood
of Christ. It’s as if He were looking at
us thru “Jesus glasses”. Now scripture is clear; God is a holy
God. He is pure, just and has set a high
moral standard for us to follow. That
standard isn’t to squash our fun, but rather because He knows what is best for
us. It’s like Paul says in Corinthians,
“You can do whatever you want, but not all things are beneficial or
constructive.”(1 Corinthians 6:12 & 10:23) Our
Heavenly Father knows what is most beneficial and constructive for us.
We are no
longer supposed to seek out worldly pleasures that fly in the face of God’s
scriptural standards. We are to seek His
face and learn from His word that which is acceptable to Him. This doesn’t mean
we must hide ourselves away and never do anything. It means we get to know what
the Lord is expecting of us thru His word and live accordingly. We all have a weak spot in our protective
armor and the devil knows just where that weak spot is. You can bet he will try to get you to do that
which you would normally never do. Go to
a place you’d normally never go. That is
precisely why we need to stay close to the Lord.
Holiness
isn’t play acting, it’s making an earnest effort to be more like Christ in our
everyday lives. We cannot live our lives
by ourselves. We simply can’t. We find ourselves in the most uncomfortable
situations by our own hand and can’t find a way out. But God knows all about it and will lead us
to safer ground if we let Him. Strive to
live holy, moral lives for your sake, not God’s. It’s what He asks of us and what He expects. Until next time, walk with the King and be a
blessing!
