“This is my command—be
strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God
is with you wherever you go.” Joshua
1:9 NLT
Fear can
come in many forms. We can be afraid of
something that is real or imagined.
Either way it is a mental obstacle that some folks cannot seem to
overcome. Discouragement can work in
tandem with fear in that it can wear us down to the point where we become
despondent, feeling as though we have no hope.
With God there is always hope. He
is with you even in your darkest hour when all seems lost and your faith is but
a flickering ember. Matthew
19:26 (NLT)
Jesus
looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with
God everything is possible.”
This is not a small, insignificant thing
that the Lord is with you everywhere you go.
This may not be good news for the ungodly, but it is comforting, hope
giving news for the true believer. To
the ungodly, God’s spirit is all around them, to the godly; it is also around
them, but within them as well, in the form of the Holy Spirit.
We want in the worst way not to be
afraid of anything, but our minds overwhelm our senses and we become terrified
of things that aren’t even real. Our
minds trick us into believing we are in a situation that we are not. A way to effectively combat this is to occupy
your mind with something other than the situation you are in. If you have a pocket Bible with you read
scripture (out loud if possible), converse with someone nearby, sing songs,
even talk aloud to yourself and by all means, pray. The Lord is with you in your situation and
doesn’t desire for you to be encased in fear.
While this may be easier said than done, with time and practice you can
overcome anything that stands in the way of your complete freedom. Until next time, walk with the King and be a
blessing!
