“As
the Scriptures say, ‘People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in
the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. But the word of the Lord
remains forever.’ And that word is the Good News that was preached to you. So get rid
of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all
unkind speech.” 1 Peter 1:24-2:1
The
comparison used here shows the difference between our temporal lives on this
earth and the infinite existence of God and His word. We plant grass seed in the spring, watch it
grow and then watch it die in the fall and winter. A short life span by comparison to even our own
lives, but the comparison shines a pinpoint light on our lives as compared to
the Word of God. Like God Himself, His
word was and is and always will be.
Therefore we are to abide by it for it is our owner’s manual for
life. Any problem you have the Word of
God has an answer for.
Once the
Word of God is in us we need to allow ourselves to be purged of all evil
behavior. We must submit to the
spiritual surgery of the Holy Spirit from within. We must have the attitude
that we want to become more like Christ in our daily lives. Without such an attitude no change will
occur.
Any and
all evil behavior is reprehensible to God.
This goes for ungodly speech and malicious, deceitful practices, not the
least being hypocrisy. People can see
right thru such things, not to mention it giving believers a very bad
name. The name Christian should never be
synonymous with anything negative or evil.
Those who call themselves Christians must represent that name with a
certain level of reverence and dignity.
Allow the Spirit within you to cleanse you properly so you might be effective
for the Lord. Until next time, walk with
the King and be a blessing!
