1 John 1:5-7
New Living Translation
“This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to
you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if
we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we
are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in
the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his
Son, cleanses us from all sin.”
The Apostle John drops the name
above all names to add emphasis to his statement. It isn’t just John, but Jesus
himself saying, “God is light”. If you are in darkness, light will shatter that
darkness. Light represents what is good, pure, true and holy. Darkness
represents what is sinful and evil. God is referred to as ‘light’ because only
God can lead us out of the darkness. His Holy Spirit is like a beacon of holy
light that leads us where God knows we need to go.
Too many people in this world today
think their lives are just fine because they go to church once a week and
that’s all. Is that really why Christ died, so we could just continue on with
our lives after we’re forgiven? Nothing changes? No, not at all. Once forgiven
the Holy Spirit of God enters into us and changes us from the inside out. If we allow, our desires change, our choices
begin to change, we begin to see things differently … we’re supposed to be
starting a new journey with a completely clean slate. Yet far too many people
call themselves Christians, but thinking no alterations are necessary, allow
nothing to change about themselves.
Fellowship with God is the door that
salvation opens. To ignore that access is to ignore the greatest blessing one
can acquire. Draw close to the Lord and watch him draw close to you. Let him
revolutionize your life. He can and will if you ask him to. Until next time,
walk with the King and be a blessing!
