“And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these
commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your
children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road,
when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7 New Living Translation
The
Hebrews had a fairly easy time incorporating God into their daily lives because
they saw him in all aspects of their lives. That was the way they taught their
children to know God. It wasn’t teaching for the sake of disseminating
information, but to establish a relationship with Almighty God.
Today
many children, even ones of Christian parents, are lost; not knowing who they
are or what their life responsibilities are. They cling to that which the world
offers as a solution, but it is a sham with nothing of any eternal value. We
must first make God an integral part of our lives before we can teach
our children to do the same.
Experiential living is what is involved here. Living your faith out in
front of your family so that they might have a living, breathing example of
what it means to love and serve God.
This
aspect of Christian living is critically important because without answers to
life’s burning questions, we will act like we know and understand, but actually
know nothing. We can’t emulate Christ if we don’t really know him. We can’t
know him without turning our lives over to him. Our way of doing things will
never accomplish anything of eternal value. Doing things by following the
instructions in God’s word will yield a bumper crop of blessings! Live out your
faith first as a living example to your kids, then fill in the gaps thru
instruction. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
