Reason 18 - Lack of Personal Revelation
“While many religious believers cite personal experiences or revelations as the foundation of their faith, atheists often report an absence of such encounters. Without tangible or transformative experiences to affirm the existence of a deity, they find it difficult to maintain belief.”
I wonder exactly what they mean by that? What were they expecting to happen to them? Just like snowflakes, there are no two humans that are alike. Not even identical twins are truly identical in every way. So the experience one person has will not be the same as someone else’s experience, regarding ANYTHING, not just salvation.
We are dealing with a spiritual realm when we are dealing with God. When I gave my life to Christ it was shortly after midnight at a minister friends kitchen table. We prayed and I felt NO different. It wasn’t until the next several days that everything around me seemed to look and seem different. It was nothing tangible, it was a sense I had that things were different. I wasn’t imagining it, and I wasn’t really expecting anything experiential. I was one of those guys that grew up in a Presbyterian church, sang in the choir, and none of it meant anything to me. My dad didn’t go; it was just my Mom and I. When I went on to college I didn’t involve myself with anything “religious”. It wasn’t until the year after I graduated that I woke up and began to really listen to what was being said around me and how empty my life was starting to feel. I began attending the Chi Alpha meeting on campus and a spark was ignited. It all began to make sense to me. Now I’m not a person who was looking for some religious crutch to lean on. I was just curious and with the limited bible knowledge I had I started to realize that it was possible to know God in a personal way. Things don’t always happen in a dramatic way. God can either be IN the storm or be a “still, small voice” that you barely hear. I hadn’t planned on getting SAVED, but I did and I’m forever grateful.
So if you’re looking for some specific type of event to take place that is supposed to reveal God you better be paying attention because if may happen and you won’t even realize it. It requires an open, receptive mind. Coming with pre-conceived ideas makes your endeavor a supreme waste of time. Until next time, walk with the King & be a blessing.
