COMFORT IN THE MIDST OF SUFFERING

“My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.”  Psalm 119:50
Life can bring suffering in various forms without warning.  It can be physical suffering or that which comes from mental anguish.  It keeps us from sleeping, it affects our demeanor and it can even affect our eating habits. By definition, suffering is the bearing of pain or distress. We all encounter it in our lives at one time or another, but it needn’t drag us down.
God’s word is filled with many wonderful promises.  Throughout history the Lord has never reneged on any promise listed in scripture.  In the midst of our suffering we can cling to the promise that God will provide for and sustain us all our lives.  He will not let us be defeated if our heart and mind are focused on Him.  That is the key.
Matthew 14:22-33 tells of an incident where Jesus came to the disciples on the water and bid Peter to come join Him.  Peter climbed over the side of the boat and actually began walking on the water himself until he saw the wind and became afraid. Whenever we allow our circumstances to dictate the way we act or think we will fall prey to pain or distress in one form or another.
I would venture a guess that mental distress may be far more prevalent then physical suffering, though it may be kept to oneself and not publically known.  The Lord loves you with an unconditional love and will guide you through any and all circumstances if you allow Him to.  He desires our voluntary allegiance.  Live for Him according to the standards He has set forth in scripture and though you may suffer He shall comfort you and preserve your life.  Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
