“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God;
may your good
Spirit
lead me on level ground.” Psalm
143:10
David is the author of this “penitential”1
Psalm. He is obviously going through
some adversity and is seeking God’s favor and deliverance. He seeks the
strength and wisdom to know and do God’s will.
He acknowledges that the Lord is his one and only God.
God has a corporate and personal will for each of His
children. The corporate will is to live
a life worthy of the name of Christ and spread the gospel message to all. His personal will is individualized. His will for my life will be different from
anyone else’s because I have different gifts and live in different
circumstances than anyone else. That
would be the case for each of His children.
So He has an individual will for each of us. We must seek it and then allow Him to guide
us through it.
Level ground is far easier to negotiate than mountainous
terrain. David sought God’s leading on
level ground. God may not always make
our journey free from rough terrain, but He is always with us and will always
assist us if we ask. God never forces
Himself of anyone, but stands at the ready to lead us where we need to go. This is the type of submission He seeks from
His followers; voluntary obedience.
As
a believer, you don’t have to do
anything in this life for the Lord, but understand that your rewards in heaven
will match that which you did in His name on earth. Until next time, walk with the King and be a
blessing!
